Chapters 2-3

In chapter 2:
1. Why was it so important for Matt to keep the fire from burning out?
2. How does Matt start fires?
3. What advice does Matt's father give him about relating to the Indians?
4. What did Matt miss that he didn't think he would miss?

5. So...what does Matt encounter in chapter 3?
6. How would you feel about this if it were you???
7. Describe Ben.
8. Why do you think Ben could not go back to town?
9. What did Ben take? Why was what Ben took so important to Matt?
10. Predict what Matt will have to do now that Ben has taken the important item.

    1. It would be very hard to start it again.
    2. He had to create friction with some twigs then blow on it to keep it alive.
    3. That he should just stay away from them and they won't bother you .
    4. Having someone to talk to.
    Chapter 3
    5. A man named Ben.
    6. I would be scared and wouldn't let him in.
    7. A fat man with many stories to tell.
    8. Because he comitted a crime.
    9. Matt's father's rifle, it was important because that's how he protected himself and how he got meat.
    10. He will have to eat learn other methods of getting meat.

    2. with tree bark, twigs and blowing on the spark until it starts flaming.
    3. they won't bother you .
    4. having someone to talk to.
    5. an indian.
    6. i would be scared and be thinking about what my father said.
    7. fat and has reddish whiskers.
    8.because the people might be mean and hurt him.
    9.his rifle, so he could protect himself against bears and such things like that and get food.
    10. he might have to make a spear and be more aware of things around him.

    i wouldnt let him come inside

    because he wants to live w/ indians
    he took the riffle and now he cant eat meat and it was his fathers
    he will now only half to eat fish

    2. He would use bark, twigs to make the fire then he would use his flint to make sparks then he wold blow on it to make it nice and warm
    3. They wouldn't bother him because most of them have left for Canada
    4. Someone to talk to occasionally
    5. A possible criminal named Ben
    6. I would just ask him to leave because my parents don't let me talk to strangers
    7. A criminal and a nice person once you get to know him
    8. Because he had committed some sort of crime
    9. Ben took Matt's dad's rifle. It was important because it was what he would use to protect himself and to get meat with.
    10. He will have to learn how to hunt other ways and just have to go fishing until he finds another way

    6. i would be kind of scared, but kind of excited if i'd never seen a real indian before.

    9. he took the rifle which matt needs for protection and food. he also will be in trouble with his dad because his dad trusted him with the rifle.
    10. I thnk matt will ned to fish and build other things to hunt with.

    4. he missed being able to talk to someone occasionally.

    7. ben has a little bit of hair,he has a shagy red beard,he is a towns person but he suposebly he doesn't want to stay there,he is heading to the indians to live with him,and he wears alot of ragedy cloths.
    8. because he was alot of trouble and the people were after him.
    9. he took matts rifle, it was important to matt because his dad gave it to him to protect him.
    10. he will look to see if ben layed it down and he will wait till his dad comes home to tell him what had happened with the gun.
